HERA-seminar concentrates on internationalisation of higher education institutions in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The seminar is targeted for the personnel of HERA institutions and other interest groups.
HERA seminar will cover themes on employment, housing and marketing. On Tuesday morning the seminar will be held in English. On Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday the seminar will be held in Finnish.

Puhujaesittelyt
Hannu Seristö on verkostot, vaikuttavuus ja kansainväliset suhteet (Knowledge Networks) -alueen vararehtori. KTT Hannu Seristö (s. 1962) on väitellyt tohtoriksi Helsingin kauppakorkeakoulussa. Hän on toiminut Helsingin kauppakorkeakoulun vararehtorina, kansainvälisen liiketoiminnan professorina ja kansainvälisen liiketoiminnan tehtävissä Polar Electro Oy:ssä, Suunto Oy:ssä ja Finnairilla sekä konsulttina McKinseyssä.
Paul Ilsley is professor emeritus of adult education and educational research at Northern Illinois University, Docent of adult education at the University of Helsinki, and Fulbright Fellow and Senior Research Fellow with the United States Department of State. Currently he teaches courses on ethnography at the University of Helsinki and works with international scholars and others who are interested in critical multicultural studies. His research centers on sociological and political aspects of citizenship, internationalism, and social movements.
Søren Berg Rasmussen, a Dane by birth, started his studies in Political Science at the University of Helsinki in 2003. Søren is currently a member of the Board of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, with main responsibility for international affairs. As a student activist, Søren was part of founding Tsemppi in 2004, an organization for international degree students, and has since then been deeply engaged with most aspects of internationalization of higher education at the University of Helsinki and in Finland in general, bringing with him a strong focus on the student perspectives.
Veijo Kyösti is Managing Director at Cesim Oy, a Finnish company specialized in business simulation games for educational institutions. Veijo's educational background includes M.Sc. in Economics from Aalto University's Business School and MBA from the University of South Carolina. In his current position Veijo has direct reportees from nine different national and cultural backgrounds.
Conrad Lyaruu (Bsc. Social Services and BBA) is currently working as a coordinator for Service Innovation Design – International R&D&I laboratory at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. He has published two research papers as a part of his bachelor thesis: on the Development of ethnic minority associations in Finland, and on Internationalisation of Higher Education Institutions as a key to Regional development success in Finland. Conrad is inspired with development and international relations, networking and collaborations, in businesses, communities and other non-political practices.
Juha Tuominen has 14 years of experience from international marketing in different companies in four different countries. He has held leading marketing and export positions for example at Rautaruukki, Fortum, Tieto and Medikro, an SME in the medical field. Currently he shares his expertise through his own company specializing in market entries. Juha is actively involved in internationalization of the Kuopio region by participating to the work of the Kuopio Chamber of Commerce and by chairing the working group of International communication strategy in the city of Kuopio.
Maria Kelo is Senior Officer at the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA). In this role, which she has held since 2003, she is responsible for the acquisition, development and implementation of ACA projects, the organisation of ACA conferences and seminars, as well as ACA’s public relations activities including representing the association at international fora. Recently she completed a large-scale study on services and preparatory programmes for international students in higher education, and is currently managing a project on transnational education. Before her appointment at ACA Maria Kelo worked as a researcher for Eurydice (the Information Network on Education in Europe). She has also worked as an intern at the DG for Education and Culture of the European Commission. Maria has a MSc in Philosophy, Policy, and Social Value from the London School of Economics.
Maria Kelo is the author of Support for International Students in Higher Education. Practice and Principles (2006), the co-author of Brain Drain and Brain Gain – migration in the European Union after Enlargement (Kelo and Wächter, 2004) and The Admission of International Students into Higher Education (Muche, Kelo and Wächter, 2004). She is the co-editor of EURODATA - Student mobility in European higher education (Kelo, Teichler, Wächter, eds., 2006) and the editor of The Future of the University. Translating Lisbon into Practice (2006).
Dr. Eirinn Larsen (1969) is currently employed as a Research Fellow at the University of Oslo, Forum for University History, and Post.Doc. in Economic History at the Business History Section, Norwegian School of Management (BI). She has previously worked as an Advisor for the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research and contributed to the White Paper on Internationalisation of Education (St.meld. nr 14 (2008-2009). She is co-editor of Inside the Business Schools: The Content of European Management Education (2003) and has published several articles and book chapters on European business education in particular. She holds a PhD in history and civilisation from the European University Institute, Florence – Italy (2005).
Pekka Timonen, the Cultural Director of City of Helsinki, is currently leading the preparation work for World Design Capital 2012 Helsinki. He has previously worked as the Director of Finnagora, the Finnish center for culture, science and economics in Hungary and Central East Europe. He has an extensive background in the fields of cultural policy, creative industries and Finnish journalism.
Teemu Arina is focused on understanding how social technologies are changing management, learning and collaboration. As the CEO of Dicole he is a recognized Finnish professional speaker, management consultant and technology entrepreneur. Teemu has over 10 years of international experience on advising organizations in education, government, media, technology, finance and retail industries on the possibilities of digital working environments and social media.
